Be anything unless it's Canadian.

TorontoSun.com - Michael Coren - Brit leftists go mad
The political fashions that begin in Britain tend to find their way to Canada extremely quickly, especially when they come from the left side of the body politic.

A new report from the think-tank of the governing Labour Party states that, "Britain is no longer a Christian nation and Christmas should be downgraded in favour of festivals from other religions to improve race relations."
So what of Canada? We're in enormous danger. We adopted an official policy of multiculturalism long ago and decided that Canada simply was not worth preserving.

Immigrants to the country who wanted to assimilate, adapt and become truly Canadian were told that there was no need. Hold on to your own culture and traditions, speak your own languages, be anything unless it's Canadian.

Don't blame newcomers for doing what they were told to do by arrogant white liberals who always know best. Instead of the community and the family there was the state and the collective. Instead of patriotism there was self-loathing. Instead of sacrifice there was entitlement.

Instead of Christianity there was, well, there was anything. Even to the point of embracing alternative religions that by their nature rejected the very pluralism, equality and progress that the social engineers claimed to cherish.
Along came the prince of the new and novel and he was far from good. Trudeau. A man who so detested English Canada that he became obsessed with expunging Anglo-Celtic culture and rebuilding Canada in his own image.

New Canadians would not be required to speak or to learn English and instead of one law, one way and one country for all, we would divide and subdivide into ethnic and linguistic ghettos. The wealthy would, of course, be immune and indifferent because money buys its own form of golden separation.

For the rest, the pieces of the jigsaw no longer fit and the picture became broken. Festivals, faith and traditions became threatened. How ironic that the British, whose heritage our leaders rejected, now are lighting the path to self destruction.

Generation Vex

Generation Vex
O rend thy garments, America! Heap ashes upon thy head. We, the generation of generations--triumphant in our multitudes, invincible, indomitable, insufferable--have come into our inheritance. Hereby we claim our birthright. Give us all your money.

The pittance that is a current Social Security payment was intended to maintain the doddering retirees of yore in their accustomed condition of thin gruel and single-car garages. Such chump change will hardly suffice for today's vigorous sexagenarians intent on (among other things) vigorous sex, in places like Paris, St. Bart's, and Phuket.
And we haven't even touched on the subject of Social Security's civil union life partner, Medicare. It won't
take much sky-diving, bungee-jumping, hang gliding, and white-water rafting before we all require new hips, knees, elbows, back surgery, pacemakers, and steel plates in our heads. And the expense of these will be as nothing compared to the cost of our pharmacological needs. Remember, we are a generation that knows drugs. From about 1967 until John Belushi died, we created a way of life based almost entirely on drugs. And we can do it again. Except this time, instead of us trying to figure out how to pay for the fun by selling each other nickel bags of pot, you the taxpayer will be picking up the tab. And did I mention that we'll expect to be airlifted to the Mayo Clinic every time we have an ache or a pain? Nothing smaller than a Gulfstream G-3, please.

So just give us all the money in the federal, state, and local budget. Forget spending on the military, education, and infrastructure. What with Iraq, falling SAT scores, and that bridge collapse in Minneapolis, it's not like the military, education, and infrastructure are doing very well anyway. Besides, you don't have a choice. We are 80 million strong. That's a number equal to almost two-thirds of the registered voters in the United States. Do what we say or we will ballot you into a socio-economic condition that will make North Korea look like the clubhouse at Pebble Beach.

And that's the good news. Beggaring government is the least of the damage that we baby boomers intend to inflict over the next 30 or 40 years. What we're really up to is something more diabolical. Our generation is going to do what our generation has always done best. We're going to shape the American social fabric to our will and make the entire nation conform to our ideals, judgments, and tastes. It will be like the Clinton administration but much, much worse. (An interesting little irony since in '08 we're probably going to get a Clinton administration that's much, much worse.)
We have rendered mere school children as dependent upon Ritalin as we are upon Lipitor and Levitra. And watch those kids go out and play. They can't so much as hop on a bike without being swathed in helmets, knee pads, shin guards, and elbow cushions. It's like seeing John Kerry skateboard.
We baby boomers are growing old--but growing old with a vengeance. Our hands may be palsied and arthritic, but we hold America's fate in them. And America's fate can be summed up in one word: Youthanasia.

"The safest place for the Left is where their ideas are safe from challenge. That way, they’ll always look right."

Family Security Matters
For example, Al Gore says “the debate is over” when it comes to global warming. That means no more questions may be asked. Yet he’s declined every venue for debate where his position could be challenged. I’ve accepted every opportunity for a debate here locally, but the other side changed their minds after I accepted. I assume more important things came up.

Alarmists claim the Earth is warming up at a catastrophic pace, yet I remember freezing my butt off in a Boston apartment during the winter of 1980 while hearing stories of the coming ice age.

Meteorologists can’t accurately predict what the weather will be this weekend, but the global warming crowd is telling us what the world will be like 100 years from now. Experts were wrong in the past. The problem is, they never admit it, so the perception left is that they were right.

Actor Ted Danson warned us if we didn’t stop polluting the oceans, we’d all die within ten years from a lack of drinking water. He said that in 1989. I’ve had a drink of water every day since with no noticeable shortage in sight. Ted Danson never admitted he was wrong.

The appearance left is that he was right.

We were told that use of the chemical DDT to kill mosquitoes was also killing off the bald eagle and osprey, with marine biologist and activist Rachel Carson leading the charge. DDT was banned in 1972 in the United States, and later in many parts of the world.

Many link the resurgence of millions of Third World malaria deaths to the ban. Those who defend the ban say that DDT was mainly used indoors to spray furniture. If that were the case, how would indoor use endanger so many animals outdoors?
One can debate the numbers, but it’s clear the banning has resulted in many, many needless deaths. We have yet to hear any apologies from those who pushed the scare on the rest of us.

The appearance left is that those who advocated the DDT ban were right.
After Hurricane Katrina, liberal politicians, environmentalists, and Hollywood filmmakers warned us of impending super storms that would make Katrina look like bad breath. Hurricane Katrina was even blamed on global warming.

However, tropical storm activity over the last two years is at its lowest level since 1977. Did any of you hear a retraction?

The appearance left is that the environmentalists were right.

When civilians and our soldiers overseas were being targeted by Iraqi insurgents, all we heard from the Left is that we need to get out of this “unwinnable, immoral civil war.” But have you noticed that we’re not hearing as much of the bad news coming from Iraq lately? Many of the reports that are coming back show that al Qaeda is being rejected by the locals. American soldiers are being welcomed into people’s homes, the violence is way down, and even the genius Osama bin Laden’s desperate call to his minions to refocus their deadly efforts is to no avail.
The anti-war Left will not admit our successes, so in their minds, they were right all along.

The safest place for the Left is where their ideas are safe from challenge. That way, they’ll always look right.

That’s why they gravitate toward government jobs, like teaching. There, their intelligence is never questioned. It’s always assumed they’re right, and they’re in positions where those on the receiving end of their dictates are dependent on them for grades – or in some cases, their day-to-day survival.

There are many other examples of good liberal intentions gone awry. When they do, liberals don’t accept any responsibility for the problems, and in some cases the deaths, they cause. By keeping silent, activists can continue to issue warnings and panics because the impression remains that they’ve always been right about everything they warn about.

So if you think about it, the only reason we keep listening to the liberal panics is because they have false credibility. Those panics have resulted in massive changes in our lifestyles, and in some cases, millions of injuries or deaths.

Yet we continue to listen to them because they appear to be right. But that’s only because the refuse to admit they were wrong. It’s arrogant – but true.

Daily Kos: Lets all convert to Islam, ignore those who take religion seriously.

I won't link to Daily Kos, so thank you to Weasel Zippers.....

Weasel Zippers: Daily Kos: Lets End the War by Converting to Islam...
While it appears from more than one point of view that the War in Iraq and the War on Terror are situations from which we may never be able to extricate ourselves, from the mountains of Pakistan comes a very simple solution: convert to Islam.

Before we reject this out of hand, lets seriously consider it for a moment: Osama Bin Laden promised the wars would be over if Americans convert to Islam.

This may sound like a lot to ask from the most religious country in the industrialized world. But of all the Christians in America today who profess to be religious, how many of us are seriously devout

Sure, there are a few people here and there who take religion seriously, but they are in such a small minority that their protests can be easily ignored.

All in all, converting to Islam would be a small price to pay for an end to the killing and maiming of our sons and daughters, not to mention the billions of dollars we could put to better use than fighting this perpetual war.

So let’s do away with our religious pretences, adopt Islam as our new faith, add a few extra holidays to our calendar, and get down to the real business at hand: pumping oil.

UNICEF

Dave Kopel on UNICEF on National Review Online
Americans mostly know UNICEF through the “trick or treat for UNICEF” campaigns. The “trick” is on the donors who think that UNICEF is all about helping poor children.

UNICEF has been a major financier of Palestinian “summer camps” which encourage children to become suicide bombers. One such camp is named for Wafa Idris, a female suicide bomber.
UNICEF is the primary funder for the “Palestinian Youth Association for Leadership and Rights Activation” (PYALARA), which UNICEF calls “a major strategic partner in Palestine.” Materials produced by the group are frequently used in schools operated by UNICEF.
The organization claims that its mission is “expanding awareness of one’s roots and identity, environment and culture, as well as of other countries and the world at large.” Yet PYALARA’s products follow the typical line of terrorist propaganda, in which nothing is the fault of the Palestinians, everything is the fault of the Jews, and there is never any effort to consider the merits of Israel’s position on anything.

For example, one PYALARA article was admiring a biography of the recently-deceased terrorist Abu Ali Mustafa.
Not that UNICEF blames Israel for everything. Bianca Jagger, in her official capacity as “UNICEF ambassador,” has toured the Middle East telling audiences that the United States is the source of evil in the modern world.

As for the actual needs of children, UNICEF is sometimes an obstacle to progress. For example, UNICEF has been pressuring Guatemala to stop allowing inter-country adoptions. That is, UNICEF would prefer a child to languish in a Guatemalan orphanage rather than be adopted by a loving family in the United States.

UNICEF’s focus on politics and political correctness has come at the expense of saving the lives of the approximately ten million children under the age of five who die each year from preventable causes.

According to UNICEF, the major cause of child poverty in the world is the free market—even though countries with free markets have vastly lower levels of child poverty than do the kleptocratic, statist economies extolled by UNICEF.
The organization today stills promotes the Brazilian gun prohibition lobby Viva Rio, and funds the pro-terrorist Palestinian Youth Association for Leadership and Rights Activation as one of its “partners” in what it calls “occupied Palestinian territory.” UNICEF also “partners” with the Palestinian Red Crescent Society, which uses ambulances to transport terrorists and their weapons, and whose personnel have participated in suicide bombings.

UNICEF’s executive board includes China (whose forced abortion policy is neither pro-life, nor pro-choice, nor pro-child) and Bhutan (where children are among the many victims of the regime’s human rights abuses). UNICEF has doled out unaccountable money to the North Korean regime.
The good-hearted children who “trick or treat for UNICEF” don’t know about UNICEF’s sordid allies, of course. So instead of simply rejecting the requests of the children, gently explain that you don’t want to give money to UNICEF because dictatorships like China help run the organization, and some of UNICEF’s money helps pro-terrorism groups. Then, put a dollar (or five, or ten) in a bag of your own, and tell the children that because of their trick-or-treating, you will be giving more money to a different charity (which you can name for them) which uses all of it money to help children. And if your child’s school is contemplating a UNICEF fundraiser, politely encourage the administration to pick a better charity.

Foster child to be taken away because Christian couple refuse to teach him about homosexuality.

From the same country who wouldn't take foster boys away from homosexual pedophiles because they were afraid that it would seem discriminatory comes this. These stories pretty much sum up the beliefs of too many liberal "social workers".

Foster child to be taken away because Christian couple refuse to teach him about homosexuality | the Daily Mail
They are devoted foster parents with an unblemished record of caring for almost 30 vulnerable children.

But Vincent and Pauline Matherick will this week have their latest foster son taken away because they have refused to sign new sexual equality regulations.
To do so, they claim, would force them to promote homosexuality and go against their Christian faith.

The 11-year-old boy, who has been in their care for two years, will be placed in a council hostel this week and the Mathericks will no longer be given children to look after.

The devastated couple, who have three grown up children of their own, became foster parents in 2001 and have since cared for 28 children at their home in Chard, Somerset.

Earlier this year, Somerset County Council's social services department asked them to sign a contract to implement Labour's new Sexual Orientation Regulations, part of the Equality Act 2006, which make discrimination on the grounds of sexuality illegal.

Officials told the couple that under the regulations they would be required to discuss same-sex relationships with children as young as 11 and tell them that gay partnerships were just as acceptable as heterosexual marriages.

They could also be required to take teenagers to gay association meetings.

When the Mathericks objected, they were told they would be taken off the register of foster parents.

The Mathericks have decided to resign rather than face the humiliation of being expelled.
Mr Matherick added: "It's terrible that we've been forced into this corner. It just should not happen.

"There are not enough foster carers around anyway without these rules.

"They were saying that we had to be prepared to talk about sexuality with 11-year-olds, which I don't think is appropriate anyway, but not only that, to be prepared to explain how gay people date.

"They said we would even have to take a teenager to gay association meetings.

"How can I do that when it's totally against what I believe?"

Religious campaigners say the couple are the latest victims of an equality drive which puts gay rights above religious beliefs.

Christian, Jewish and Muslim leaders have complained that the rules force them to overturn long-held beliefs.

The Mathericks are planning to fight their case in the courts with the backing of the Lawyers' Christian Fellowship.

DHS sending robotic dragonflys to spy on moonbats?

Now I know they're crazy. All DHS has to do is dress up like hippies and walk among them.

Dragonfly or Insect Spy? Scientists at Work on Robobugs. - washingtonpost.com
Vanessa Alarcon saw them while working at an antiwar rally in Lafayette Square last month.

"I heard someone say, 'Oh my god, look at those,' " the college senior from New York recalled. "I look up and I'm like, 'What the hell is that?' They looked kind of like dragonflies or little helicopters. But I mean, those are not insects."
Robotic fliers have been used by the military since World War II, but in the past decade their numbers and level of sophistication have increased enormously.

DragonSpies
Robotic fliers have been used by the military since World War II, but in the past decade their numbers and level of sophistication have increased enormously.

Out in the crowd, Bernard Crane saw them, too.

"I'd never seen anything like it in my life," the Washington lawyer said. "They were large for dragonflies. I thought, 'Is that mechanical, or is that alive?' "

That is just one of the questions hovering over a handful of similar sightings at political events in Washington and New York. Some suspect the insectlike drones are high-tech surveillance tools, perhaps deployed by the Department of Homeland Security.

Others think they are, well, dragonflies -- an ancient order of insects that even biologists concede look about as robotic as a living creature can look.

Taxes are beautiful!

Beauty is in the eye of the withholder | Oddly Enough | Reuters
They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but an Italian minister who tried to argue that paying taxes is "bellissima" has found himself in a minority of one.

Economy Minister Tommaso Padoa-Schioppa's comments that "taxes are a beautiful thing" and "civilized" met a flood of derision Monday, in a country where evasion is so widespread that an estimated 13 percent of workers pay no taxes whatsoever.

Opposition newspaper Il Giornale said "the minister has gone mad" while economist Francesco Giavazzi asked whether "poor families" and wage earners shared the minister's enthusiasm.

Instilling respect in your children.

If you're a parent, please read this article.

A Lost Art: Instilling Respect - washingtonpost.com
There's been a fundamental change in family life, and it has played out over the years in my office. Teachers, pediatricians and therapists like me are seeing children of all ages who are not afraid of their parents. Not one bit. Not of their power, not of their position, not of their ability to apply standards and enforce consequences.
It came to me like a lightning bolt: Not only are the kids unafraid of their parents, parents are afraid of their kids!
Today's generation of children is the most closely observed, monitored, cherished and scheduled in our history. They are also the most praised. Families are smaller, and there are fewer children upon whom parents can beam their attention.

Today there are moms and dads who aren't just parents -- they believe in "parenting." They read volumes and volumes about how to be good parents and view parenting as both an art and a science that must be studied and updated and practiced self-consciously. Letting children run around the neighborhood and be bored some of the time is anathema to them.

Many parents these days don't expect their children to contribute much around the house, although they do expect them to achieve outside the house. They have strong beliefs about what makes children successful and happy-ever-after, and underpinning those beliefs is the concept that they -- the parents -- are all-important in this quest. Such parents believe that self-esteem is the key to lifetime success, and to this end they compliment their children a lot.

They are egalitarian, and they believe families should be democracies. Needless to say, they don't give orders. They believe that children will do things when they are ready to. They ask their child politely if he or she will do something and are surprised and dismayed when the response is "no."

It's as if parents have rewritten the Fourth Commandment to read, "Honor thy children."

And, boy, are they paying for it.
Twenge refers to a quote from the character Tyler Durden in the movie "Fight Club": "We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very [ticked] off."

Code Pink makes a scene at the border.

Score one for Canada, even if the policy is directed mainly towards gathering money. Please note that all these moonbats had to do is file some paperwork and pay a fine, and they would have been let in.

Activists Test Canada Border Policy -- Newsday.com
Peace activists Medea Benjamin and Ann Wright have been arrested in the U.S. while protesting the Iraq war, but they never dreamed that would prevent them from entering Canada.

The arrests landed Benjamin's and Wright's names in an FBI-run database, the National Crime Information Center, which Canada also relies on to screen visitors. When the two women visited the country in August, they were told they would have to apply for "criminal rehabilitation" and pay $200 if they wanted to visit again. Neither did.

On Wednesday, Benjamin, co-founder of the anti-war group Code Pink, and Wright, a retired Army colonel, walked into Canada at Niagara Falls to test whether they really would be denied entry because of their anti-war-related arrests.

They were.
Derek Mellon, a spokesman with the Canada Border Services Agency, said he was unable to comment on Wright and Benjamin specifically, but said all foreign visitors must meet longstanding admissibility requirements, such as having valid travel documents and a clean criminal record.

Canada generally refuses entry to anyone who has been convicted of a criminal offense, regardless of the nature of it, he said. Those with convictions, however, may apply to be rehabilitated, which involves filing paperwork and paying a processing fee ranging from $200 to $1,000.

"We welcome millions of American visitors every year," he said.

Carter: Darfur not genocide. Term "unhelpful".

News | Africa - Reuters.com
Carter said Washington's use of the term genocide to describe the situation in Darfur, where international estimates say 200,000 people have died and 2.5 million driven from their homes, was unhelpful.

"There is a legal definition of genocide and Darfur does not meet that legal standard. The atrocities were horrible but I don't think it qualifies to be called genocide," he said.

Washington is almost alone in branding the 4 1/2 years of violence in Darfur genocide. Khartoum rejects the term, European governments are reluctant to use it and a U.N.-appointed commission of inquiry found no genocide, but that some individuals may have acted with genocidel intent.

Carter, whose charitable foundation, the Carter Center, worked to establish the International Criminal Court (ICC), said: "If you read the law textbooks ... you'll see very clearly that it's not genocide and to call it genocide falsely just to exaggerate a horrible situation I don't think it helps."

Hillary: "the most religious Democrat since Jimmy Carter"

toledoblade.com -- Consultant's 'tough sell' is to spotlight Hillary's faith
After sitting through 17 lectures - most of them truly informative and fascinating - over 3 1/2 days last week, the most memorable news tidbit I brought home from the Religion Newswriters Association's annual conference is this: Hillary Clinton is deeply religious.

Thankfully, I was sitting down when Burns Strider called Senator Clinton "the most religious Democrat since Jimmy Carter."
...only 16 percent of Americans consider the New York Democratic senator to be "very religious."

Mr. Strider's task, as Senator Clinton's director of faith-based operations, is to try to change the perception of Hillary among America's evangelical community - a political bloc that has been pivotal in the recent presidential elections.
Mr. Strider, an influential adviser whose previous clients included Al Gore, Nancy Pelosi, and James Clyburn, joined Mrs. Clinton's campaign in December.

He acknowledged he's facing a daunting task.

"It's a tough sell; it's a challenge," he said. "I'm not denying it. But we can have a conversation."
Barack Hussein Obama, a Democrat whose faith is filled with unknowns, was barely mentioned at the conference. But according to a biographical entry on the Pew Forum's Web site (www.pewforum.org), Mr. Obama's father was a Muslim who became an atheist. His mother was raised by non-practicing Methodist and Baptist parents, and after a divorce, she married a Muslim.
While some observers are expressing concerns that religion is already getting too much attention in the 2008 election, it's an issue that voters take very seriously and one that is bound to heat up as the day of decision draws nearer

Churchill still teaching, goes around system.

I doubt CU doesn't know this.

Fired Professor Teaches Anyway - News Story - KMGH Denver
University of Colorado professor Ward Churchill was fired by the Board of Regents in July.

But that didn't stop Churchill from still teaching at CU this week.

According to the Boulder Daily Camera, a group of student supporters rented out a classroom at CU's Eaton Humanities Building and invited Churchill to teach.

The topic? "ReVisioning American History: Colonization, Genocide and Formation of the U.S. Settler State."

And it appears this isn't a one-time-only event. Churchill handed out a class syllabus, which includes scheduled classes to be held Oct. 9 about colonialism, Oct. 23 on genocide and Oct. 30 about racism.

Toddlers at Folsom Street Fair

Michelle Malkin » Miller Lite-approved: Toddlers at the Folsom Street Fair
Two-year-olds Zola and Veronica Kruschel waddled through Folsom Street Fair amidst strangers in fishnets and leather crotch pouches, semi and fully nude men.

The twin girls who were also dressed for the event wore identical lace blouses, floral bonnets and black leather collars purchased from a pet store.

Fathers Gary Beuschel and John Kruse watched over them closely. They were proud to show the twins off.

“They will see more than the kids with moms and dads in Iowa,” said Beuschel, who wanted to expose his children to San Francisco's diverse community. “Every parent has to decide for themselves what is right for them. And I respect that. And we decided that this is right for our children.”

Beuschel and his girls were at the 22nd Folsom Street Fair, an annual leather event in San Francisco's South of Market district, which showcased outrageous costumes, fetish attire, and a community obsessed with bondage, whipping, and spanking.
“Why do (these people) bring kids here? This is a leather fair for god’s sake,” said Bahran Aliassa, who was masturbating in public. He has been doing it annually for the past six years.
Oakland resident Veronica Charles, 36, was with a baby stroller and said her son was too young to understand. “I don’t think I’ll bring him here when he is 6,” Charles said.

If mothers ruled the world....

From June, 2007.

Remember Sally Field's comment this year about how if mothers ruled the world there would be no wars?
clipped from www.reuters.com

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - A pregnant Palestinian mother of eight and her niece told Israeli interrogators they planned a double suicide bombing in Israel after they were detained last month, Israel's Shin Bet security service said on Wednesday.

Citing what it said were confessions the two women made after their arrest trying to leave the Gaza Strip, it said Fatima Zak and Ruda Habib were recruited by militant group Islamic Jihad and applied to enter Israel for medical treatment.

Zak, 39, and Habib, 30, said they were to have traveled to the West Bank, received explosives from local militants, and then re-entered Israel for the attack, the Shin Bet said.

The Shin Bet, which had previously kept a gag order on the women's arrests, described Zak as a pregnant mother of eight who has worked for Islamic Jihad's welfare branch. Habib, Zak's niece, has four children, the Shin Bet said.

Liberals and Disgust

globeandmail.com: Social Studies
Liberals and disgust

"Jonathan Haidt, a professor of psychology at the University of Virginia, does research on morality and emotion. In his early work, he writes on the Edge: The Third Culture website, "I told people short stories in which a person does something disgusting or disrespectful that was perfectly harmless (for example, a family cooks and eats its dog, after the dog was killed by a car). I was trying to pit the emotion of disgust against reasoning about harm and individual rights. I found that disgust won in nearly all groups I studied (in Brazil, India and the United States), except for groups of politically liberal college students, particularly Americans, who overrode their disgust and said that people have a right to do whatever they want, as long as they don't hurt anyone else.""
